Malaria Modeling Paper Published

Philip Eckhoff, Principal Investigator for the Institute for Disease Modeling has published a new paper in the peer-reviewed open access journal PLOS One. The paper, P. falciparumInfection Durations and Infectiousness Are Shaped by Antigenic Variation and Innate and Adaptive Host Immunity in a Mathematical Model, details the within-host aspects of the malaria model, namely the dynamic relationship between the parasite and the host immune response. Together with Philips previous publication on modeling mosquito life cycle and ecology, it explains the scientific basis for the disease transmission software model that EMOD has been developing to characterize infectious disease transmission and to help predict the most effective interventions to combat devastating diseases such as malaria. Upcoming papers will cover topics such as campaign interventions and the impact of introducing current and future vaccine candidates.
